Reignitions across five districts sustain fire activity

The picture today is shaped by several reignitions across the districts of Leiria, Setúbal, Lisbon, Santarém and Coimbra, which have kept the fire map active. Activity has also gathered in clusters of multiple fires in Palmela (Setúbal) and Leiria (Leiria), while the rest of the country sees mostly isolated incidents that have been brought under control or are under surveillance. At present the majority of hotspots are either contained or being watched, and the MTG sensor is picking up numerous thermal anomalies that are not linked to reported fires, likely industrial or agricultural sources.

Technical discussion

Operational tempo remains light, with ground crews handling most incidents and only minimal aerial activity. IPMA’s fire‑weather outlook shows a modest decline in risk for tomorrow, driven by a down‑shift in the Faro district while the national RIR stays steady and overall falling. MTG asymmetry is pronounced, recording numerous unmatched thermal anomalies that do not correspond to active fires. The fire‑weather regime today is classified as light.

Outlook

Risk eases through the late afternoon and night, with the modest downward trend expected to continue tomorrow; the peak risk period has already passed.
