Significant fire in Gavião (Portalegre) now under control

Today the picture is shaped by a significant fire in Gavião (Portalegre) that has been brought under control. Elsewhere the day has been driven by a cluster of ignitions around Penafiel (Porto) and by a notable fire in Óbidos (Leiria), both now contained. Activity has been strongest in the Lisbon and Leiria districts, where small flare‑ups have sparked and been subdued, while the interior north remains quieter. The MTG sensor is detecting numerous thermal anomalies, most matching reported incidents, with a few unmatched spots over agricultural land.

Technical discussion

IPMA flags a marginal drop in the RIR for Viseu district tomorrow, extending today’s downward trend. The operational regime has been moderate, with response balanced between ground crews and limited aerial support. Forecasts place tomorrow’s fire‑weather risk in the marginal band nationally. MTG asymmetry remains limited, with most thermal detections matching active reports and only a few unmatched spots.

Outlook

Risk is expected to ease through the evening, with a marginal decline in fire‑weather potential tomorrow.
