Fire in Marco de Canaveses (Porto) stays active as Viseu hosts multiple fronts

Activity today centres on the Viseu district, where Mangualde is hosting several fronts that have been flaring throughout the morning. Further north, Bragança and the Aveiro district each hold a single active front, while the Porto district’s Marco de Canaveses fire continues to burn and the Coimbra district’s Montemor‑o‑Velho incident is now under control. A handful of incidents remain active across the interior, the rest have been brought under control. The MTG sensor is picking up a swarm of unmatched thermal anomalies away from the active fronts, likely non‑wildfire sources.

Technical discussion

Operational tempo remains light, with ground crews handling most incidents. IPMA flags a marginal rise in fire‑weather risk tomorrow in the Guarda district, while the national reading shows the majority of districts steady and a few edging up. MTG asymmetry is pronounced, the sensor picking up numerous unmatched thermal anomalies that do not correspond to the active fronts. Overall fire‑weather indices stay within the seasonal norm, limiting escalation potential.

Outlook

The light regime is expected to hold for the rest of the day, with a marginal risk rise tomorrow in Guarda, most pronounced from 14h–19h.
