New ignitions flare across Lisbon, Leiria and Setúbal districts

The picture today is shaped by a surge of new ignitions across the Lisbon, Leiria and Setúbal districts, with several hotspots still burning while many others have already been brought under control. Activity built through the morning, first in the Lisbon suburbs, then spreading west into Leiria’s interior and south toward Setúbal. At present a handful of fires remain active, some are under surveillance and the rest have been resolved. The MTG sensor is detecting numerous unmatched thermal anomalies, most likely linked to industrial sites or agricultural burns rather than wildfire.

Technical discussion

IPMA flags a steady RIR nationwide, keeping fire‑weather conditions broadly unchanged. The operational regime today is moderate, with ground crews handling most incidents and aerial support limited. Tomorrow the outlook shows a modest rise in risk for Braga, contrasted with slight declines in Santarém and Faro, while the rest of the districts stay flat. Satellite monitoring shows low MTG asymmetry, with the bulk of detections unmatched and therefore not indicative of new wildfire fronts.

Outlook

Risk remains steady for the rest of the day, with the main fire‑weather window still expected between 14h and 19h. Tomorrow a modest upward shift is forecast for Braga, while Santarém and Faro see a slight decline.
